Who We Are
The Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors was founded in 1969 by a group of Nigerians who trained, qualified and practiced in the United Kingdom but who upon returning to Nigeria sense the urgent need to develop the profession of quantity surveying in Nigeria by establishing a parallel body to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors of United Kingdom, the body that performs the same role in the United Kingdom.
Though, the Institute was formally registered under the Land Perpetual Succession Act in 1970; it has within the 37 years of its existence grown from strength to strength. Membership strength as of now is over 8,000 made up of Fellows, Corporate Members, Probationers, Technicians and Students. At the moment, chapters of the Institute formally exist in fourteen (14) states of the federation. In 1986, the federal government recognized the Institute through the Quantity Surveyors Registration, etc Decree No. 31 of December. 1986.
Our Objectives
The objectives of the Chapter are
- To help National Executive Council generally in the running of the Institute
- To take care of members’ interests in the Chapter
- To enlighten the public in general about our profession and project positively the image of the Institute
- To create forum of interaction among members
- To interact with other professionals
- To organize seminars and workshops with the aim of promoting Quantity Surveyors Profession
