The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Lagos Chapter was initially established as a branch in 1975. However, the branch became inactive between 1975 and 1985. Its revival in 1985 was championed by a group of committed members who worked tirelessly to restore its operations.
The first Interim Chairman of the Chapter was QS Murtala Oladapo, FNIQS, PPNIQS, after which QS U. Ole-Ikpa emerged as the first substantive Chairman. Other pioneering substantive Senate members included QS Emmanuel Oforeh, FNIQS, PPNIQS; QS Olusegun Ajanlekoko, FNIQS, PPNIQS; QS Isaac Oyebade, FNIQS; QS Donatus Enechukwu, FNIQS; QS J.A. Bamdupe, FNIQS; QS John A. Alufohai; QS I.O. Sobotie, FNIQS; and QS E.E. Onwuka, FNIQS.
Since inception, the Lagos Chapter has produced nine national Presidents of the Institute and has been led by 17 Chairmen, including QS Adenike Ayanda, FNIQS, who remains the first and only female Chairperson in the Chapter’s history.
The Chapter has experienced remarkable growth and development over the years, largely due to the strategic advantages of Lagos State—Nigeria’s commercial, industrial, and economic hub. Its high population density, extensive urbanization, and concentration of construction and infrastructure activities have contributed to the Chapter’s vibrancy and relevance.
